About
Jennifer Herzog is a film and theatre actor, born and bred in NYC, best known for her breakout performance in the supporting lead role of DEBRA in the distributed feature film No Choice. Her dramatic work is characterized by raw emotional depth, and her sharp comedic timing punctuates her humous roles. In No Choice, Jennifer’s work has garnered critical attention: “Herzog is terrific… riveting” (Film Threat); “Herzog… shines” (The Independent Critic); “Herzog’s portrayal… adds a layer of realism to the film.” (Just for Movie Freaks). In addition to No Choice, Jennifer has appeared for decades in theatre in NY, as well as in many indie shorts. She continues to seek out complex, character-driven narratives in her work.
Jennifer is currently seeking NY legit representation.
Background:
Jennifer hails from parents who were Broadway professionals. Her mother was a musical theatre performer working with talents like Hal Prince, and doing her fair share of experimental work in the downtown East Village scene of the 1960’s/70’s. Her father was an actor and stage manager, working with luminaries such as Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and Tallulah Bankhead. They both quit the biz when parenthood came along, but Jennifer spent her childhood accompanying her parents backstage after Broadway shows to congratulate their friends & colleagues on the night’s performances. She has fun memories of post-show dressing room hangouts with Laurie Beechman, Martin Sheen, Alan Alda, Ann Reinking, Chip Zien, and many others. (With an origin story like that, how could she not become an actor?!)
Jennifer immersed herself in competitive acting training programs throughout her youth, including LaGuardia and Ithaca College. She has now been acting professionally for over 25 years. The majority of that has been on stage in NYC and regionally, though she has been focusing more on film work over the past few years. She completed principal photography on a total of 14 different independent film projects between October 2023 and March 2026.
Recent independent film credits include the supporting lead in Nate Hilgartner’s distributed feature, No Choice. The film is now available on Amazon Prime Video. Jennifer’s recent short film work includes supporting roles in Graceann Mattair’s Moving Parts, Brandon Kim’s Stolen Bullet, and Chike Nezianya’s Silhouettes, among many others.
In July and August of 2025, Jennifer played Sherlock Holmes at the Hangar Theatre in Kate Hamill’s queer comedic contemporary farce, Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson, Apt. 2B. Back in 2018, she was nominated for a SALT Award for her work in the world premiere production of Saviana Stanescu’s absurdist sci-fi play, What Happens Next, at the Cherry Arts. As an actor, Jennifer focuses on making honest and connected choices in her work, while offering generosity and deep-hearted respect to fellow team members throughout the process. More than anything, she genuinely loves to act and is dedicated to fulfilling the director’s vision.
She also loves to educate and coach! Jennifer has taught acting at the university level since 2010. Click here to request her teaching CV.
Jennifer happily travels for work, and happily resides in a forest in upstate New York with her husband and her son (who is a cat).
